As a Tribal government, you can choose to contribute to Paid Leave and offer Paid Leave benefits to your employees. You don’t have to be involved in Paid Leave in any way, which also means that you don’t have to pay employer contributions or withhold employee contributions.
How Paid Leave works for Tribal governments
If you choose to offer Paid Leave benefits to your employees, here’s what you need to know:
- For Paid Leave Oregon purposes, Tribal governments are any federally recognized sovereign Tribal governments whose borders lie within this state, intertribal organizations formed by two or more of those governments, or other federally recognized Indian tribes with Oregon employees.
- Tribal governments that want to provide Paid Leave benefits to their employees can provide individual coverage for each Tribal-owned business.
- Choosing coverage happens through an intergovernmental agreement between the Tribal government and the State of Oregon. The coverage is for at least 3 years.
- Tribal government contributions and benefits are generally the same as other employers.
- Contributions and benefits for Tribal government employees are generally the same as other employees.
